Chapter 291: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
Chapter 291: Digging Continues
As the children continued digging, they inadvertently veered off course.
By the time they realized, they found themselves in front of an unfamiliar courtyard.
Lu Lianrong, after recognizing whose courtyard it was, changed her expression slightly. She raised her hand to signal the children. “Let’s change direction and dig somewhere else, not ahead.”
Ying Zhi, still happily digging, didn’t immediately notice whose courtyard it was. Upon hearing Lu Lianrong’s words, she pouted a little. “Auntie, we want to dig here!”
Feng Youtan didn’t care about anything else. At that moment, her little shovel was swinging so quickly that the soil was flying everywhere.
Hearing Ying Zhi’s words, she quickly nodded. “Please, Sister Rongrong, let us dig!”
Lu Lianrong was quite helpless. She raised her hand to point in the opposite direction. “If you keep digging this way, it’ll lead us to Fourth Brother’s courtyard.”
As soon as those words were spoken, Feng Youtan, who had been digging furiously, suddenly froze. She stopped mid-motion, her body stiffening.
Ying Zhi also quietly shifted her feet, subconsciously taking a step back.
Suisui, not understanding what was going on, stood there holding her little shovel, looking around in confusion.
Feng Youtan, unwilling to back down, stubbornly refused to move. She opened her mouth to say something, but was afraid that raising her voice would disturb the people in the courtyard, so she just pouted, looking around without speaking.
Ying Zhi didn’t want to back down either.
But… Fourth brother…
No, absolutely not!
This was a situation they couldn’t provoke.
Ying Zhi reluctantly took a step back, deciding against saying anything more.
Lu Lianrong could tell that the girls were scared but unwilling to admit it.
With a sigh, she pointed to the side. “Let’s go this way and dig.”
Both Feng Youtan and Ying Zhi obediently followed Lu Lianrong’s directions and started digging in the new direction.
Though Suisui didn’t understand why they suddenly changed directions, she thought, as long as she was with her older sisters, it was fine!
Digging was so much fun!
Suisui really enjoyed it.
And this little shovel was so interesting.
She thought that when she got home, she would ask her father to help her get one of these small shovels.
She wanted to help her mother by digging up earthworms and bugs in the flowerbed.
She could do it so well!
The three little girls quickly changed direction.
Feng Youtan’s eyes glinted, though it was unclear what she was thinking.
Children are full of ideas, and their minds wander easily. Even though Lu Lianrong noticed, since they didn’t do anything wrong, she didn’t say anything and let them play for now.
They dug for a little while longer, distancing themselves from the Fourth Young Master’s courtyard, but soon Lu Lianrong was called away.
It seemed another younger girl from some other household had caused a ruckus, and they needed her to go help mediate.
Even though Lu Lianrong was young, she was a member of the main family, and whenever there were issues at banquets, someone from the family had to step in.
Her aunt was busy entertaining guests, and her older sister was probably occupied as well.
Not wanting to leave the children alone, Lu Lianrong gave them a careful reminder and reluctantly left, looking back several times.
Suisui happily waved goodbye to Sister Rongrong.
Soon, the three children were back to digging.
During their digging, Ying Zhi accidentally got sand in her eyes and needed to wash them out.
She closed her eyes, letting the servant lead her away, but as she was leaving, she still felt uneasy about leaving Suisui alone. “Suisui, don’t worry, I’ll be back soon!”
Suisui nodded happily. “Okay, Sister Qiao Qiao.”
Ying Zhi thought there was nothing wrong with being called that. She was older, so naturally, she was the sister.
Feng Youtan, hearing this, couldn’t help but laugh. “Wrong, wrong! She’s younger than you, you should call her ‘Auntie’!”
Suisui:?
Suisui looked completely confused.
Although she knew about generations and respect, children don’t really grasp it fully, do they?
She instinctively thought that Sister Qiao Qiao was older than her, so of course, she should be called sister.
Why was there suddenly talk of generations?
Seeing Suisui’s confused look, Feng Youtan held back her laughter and explained, “We follow the generations from the top down. Her Royal Highness the Grand Princess is our Great Aunt, and her children, who are cousins to the Emperor and Prince Qi, are of the same generation. After that, it’s Ying Pipi’s father and uncle, and they’re of the same generation as us. Ying Pipi’s generation is lower than ours, so she should call us ‘Auntie’. But calling it that sounds so old!”
After finishing, Feng Youtan pouted, not too happy with the generational structure.
But of course, when it comes to formal occasions and respect, it’s all about proper etiquette.
She thought to herself, Suisui, this little silly girl, clearly had never been taught these things, and now she had to teach her.
But then again, Feng Youtan thought, her lessons weren’t for free. There had to be a tuition fee!
With that thought, she leaned closer to Suisui, whispering, “Am I a good sister?”
Though Feng Youtan hadn’t been particularly friendly when they first met, after spending some time together, she’d been quite nice, even pinching Suisui’s little face and, when no one was looking, giving Suisui’s eye a quick kiss.
Afterwards, her satisfied expression made Suisui feel like her sister wasn’t trying to kiss her, but was trying to eat her instead.
Thinking of this, Suisui obediently nodded. “Okay.”
Hearing Suisui’s answer, Feng Youtan mischievously smiled and pointed to a nearby courtyard. “Then, would you dare go into that courtyard right now?”
Upon hearing these words, Aunt Xiang’s heart skipped a beat.
The Fourth Young Master of the Lu family had a special situation, and they couldn’t afford to act recklessly!
She had already thought this through: if Princess Shunyang really tried to force Suisui into that courtyard, she would definitely stop her. If she couldn’t stop her, she’d accompany Suisui herself.
Suisui, not understanding the situation at the Lu residence, glanced at the courtyard when her sister spoke, then looked back at her sister and obediently nodded. “Okay.”
After a moment of thought, Suisui added softly, “But… shouldn’t we knock first? We need the other person's permission to enter, otherwise it’s impolite.”
Suisui had been learning proper etiquette recently and had picked up a lot of the formalities.
To enter someone else’s courtyard or home, you needed to knock first.
Feng Youtan waved her hand dismissively. “Knocking is boring. We’ll sneak in.”
Suisui:?
She looked puzzled and whispered, “Isn’t that a little wrong?”
Feng Youtan didn’t care. “I’m a princess. What’s there to be afraid of? I’ll go first, you follow me.”
Aunt Xiang:…
She didn’t know whether to stop them or not.
If she stopped them, the princess would still want to go in.
If she didn’t stop them…
The situation with the Fourth Young Master of the Lu family was complicated…
She was really afraid of making the other party angry, and worse, scaring Suisui!
Aunt Xiang’s conflicted expression was almost uncontrollable.
Aunt Chou, who was in charge of serving Princess Shunyang, saw Aunt Xiang’s expression and couldn’t help but sigh in resignation. She whispered, “Just let them play around. You can’t persuade them.”
The little princess’ temper was impossible to change.
Sometimes, the more you tried to persuade her, the more stubborn she became, doing the opposite.
Aunt Chou had come to terms with it and had let go of worrying.
It didn’t matter—anyway, the Empress would handle the aftermath.
Besides, Princess Shunyang had a special status. As long as there wasn’t a major problem, the Emperor would just turn a blind eye and let it slide.
