  Chapter 283: Lu Lianrong

Suisui exerted all her strength again.

This time, the boy finally moved.

It was perhaps because Suisui had finally found the right point to apply her force.

Before being pampered in the royal mansion, Suisui's strength was actually not small compared to children of her age.

Now, though she had become a bit delicate from being pampered, she still felt that her strength was considerable.

So, she felt rather frustrated that she couldn’t drag out a little boy.

The boy didn’t look much bigger than her, right?

Well...

After dragging him out, Suisui realized the boy was indeed quite large, similar in size to an older brother.

Once she got the boy out, the others found it easier to help.

A nimble maid, standing in a corner, swiftly pulled the young master out.

The boy was indeed running a high fever—his temperature was so high that it could be felt even through his clothes.

After pulling him out, the maid swiftly flipped him in her arms and carried him, then walked toward Lu Xinglan: “Madam, this is a young master. He’s burning up, and his fever is very high. His condition isn’t looking good, and he’s also having some convulsions.”

High fever combined with convulsions caused Lu Xinglan’s face to turn pale.

This situation was indeed serious.

She looked at the boy’s face—he looked familiar, but she couldn’t place him. She turned to her servant and asked. After a quick glance, her servant spoke up, “It’s the eldest young master of the Huaiyang Marquis' household.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Xinglan froze, and so did Qi Wangfei.

When the boy was brought out, Qi Wangfei had been urging Suisui to come out quickly. After Suisui obediently did so, Qi Wangfei anxiously took the boy into her arms, gently comforting him, afraid that the boy might have been scared.

Now hearing that this poor young master was the eldest son of the Huaiyang Marquis' household—whom she had casually mentioned earlier—she was understandably surprised.

The two sisters exchanged a glance, and both tightened their brows in concern.

Neither of them was particularly outspoken, so even though they were both puzzled, they didn’t say much.

The boy’s condition was serious, and waiting any longer was not an option.

However, taking him out openly could disrupt the atmosphere of the Lu household.

Thus, Lu Xinglan quickly instructed the maid to carry him: “Take him to the back courtyard.”

Even though she was married, Lu Xinglan still had her own courtyard in her family’s residence, which was kept for her to stay in when visiting with children.

Moreover, aside from the sick young master, the rest of the group were women, all from the family, so it wouldn’t raise any suspicion to go to the back courtyard.

As they hurried back, they ran into Lu Lianrong, who was rushing over.

Upon realizing it was Lu Lianrong, Lu Xinglan was momentarily taken aback. But when she recognized her, her face lit up with surprise: “Lianrong’s here! Quick, take us to the back courtyard. There’s a child seriously ill and needs a doctor.”

Although Lu Lianrong was only eleven this year, she was already half a head taller than twelve-year-old Lu Xuerou, looking sharp and capable, her demeanor exuding maturity.

Lu Xinglan guessed that perhaps the banquet was busy, and her sister-in-law couldn’t spare the time, so they had sent Lianrong over instead.

In fact, that was exactly the case.

The maid had only mentioned that a child was trapped by the rockery, and Madam Lu had assumed it was just some playful mischief. She didn’t want to cause a scene, so she hadn’t made a fuss and had Lianrong come to help.

Lu Lianrong, the eldest daughter of the second branch, was young but exuded an aura of confidence.

When she arrived, she didn’t interrupt her aunts' conversation. After quickly understanding the situation, Lu Lianrong greeted her aunts first.

Afterward, she asked a few questions about the situation before immediately leading everyone toward the back courtyard: “Let’s go to my courtyard. It’s closer, and the doctor will be there soon to have a look.”

As Lu Lianrong spoke, she stepped closer to the maid, noticed that it was Wei Mingqiao, and raised her brows, “The young master of the Huaiyang Marquis’ household?”

Lu Xinglan nodded.

Lu Lianrong, who resembled her second uncle, had the same imposing aura, as if she had been forged on a battlefield.

While she was asking questions, she reached out and gently touched Wei Mingqiao’s head. Realizing how burning hot it was, she immediately instructed the maid behind her: “Dun Dun, you’re quick. Take my token, go out of the mansion, and find Physician Wu from Shun Medical Hall. He specializes in treating high fevers in children, and Mingqiao’s condition doesn’t look good.”

Dun Dun had a sturdy name, but she was a slim, capable young girl around fourteen or fifteen. Unlike the other maids in the household, she wore a neat, lake-green equestrian outfit, with a high ponytail.

After hearing Lu Lianrong’s instructions, Dun Dun nodded, “Yes.”

Then, she dashed away with incredible speed.

Lu Xinglan had seen this before, but each time, she was still astonished.

Suisui had never seen such a sight before, and her round eyes couldn’t help but widen in awe.

Lu Lianrong, just as she was about to speak to another maid, turned her head and met Suisui’s admiring gaze. Unable to hold it back, she smiled: “Mingxi, hello. I’m Lianrong, your older sister.”

Suisui was impressed by how capable Lu Lianrong seemed.

Anyone who could control maids who seemed to fly (almost) definitely wasn’t ordinary.

At that moment, this impressive older sister was greeting her.

With so many people named Mingxi today, Suisui finally realized that she had another formal name.

She clung to her mother’s arms a little shyly but didn’t show too much hesitation. Tilting her head, she smiled at Lu Lianrong: “Sister Lianrong, hello. I’m Mingxi, also called Suisui.”

Lu Lianrong immediately understood that Suisui was her nickname.

She was indeed adorable, just like a little sister.

She was round and soft, like a little bundle of cuteness.

Lu Lianrong couldn’t help but look at her for a while. Reaching into her own clothes and feeling around, she didn’t find anything suitable. Finally, she quickly untied the tassel from her sword and handed it to Suisui: “I don’t have anything else at the moment, but you can play with this sword tassel.”

Normally, a sword tassel was just a small trinket, something to casually toss around.

However, Lu Lianrong’s sword tassel was special—it had a large ruby the size of a pigeon egg at its center, which shimmered with a golden light under the sun.

Suisui, too shy to take it, instinctively looked toward her mother.

Qi Wangfei smiled and coaxed: “It’s sister Lianrong’s kindness. You should take it, Suisui.”

With her mother’s consent, Suisui obediently stretched out her hand to take the sword tassel, sweetly thanking her: “Thank you, older sister. It’s beautiful. I like it.”

Lu Lianrong thought to herself that Suisui’s eyes were really lovely—when surprised, they became round like a startled raccoon, and when happy, they squinted into crescent-shaped smiles, so sweet and soft that anyone would want to scoop her up and give her a good cuddle.

But since her aunts were around, she refrained from being too affectionate, though she did feel a bit of regret. Still, she didn’t show it, lightly tugging at the tassel on Suisui’s hat: “Why are you so well-behaved? It’s better for children to be lively. Suisui, you need to be brave and bold.”
