  Chapter 282: Suisui Saves People

The child in the rockery clearly wasn’t well.

Qi Wangfei looked at the child’s twitching figure and couldn’t help but feel worried.

Lu Xinglan also felt distressed. She had children of her own and naturally understood. The child’s condition seemed like an illness, twitching like that. It must be terribly uncomfortable.

However, even the slimmest maid couldn’t get inside. Everyone tried reaching out but couldn’t touch the child.

The group was anxious, trying hard while walking in circles.

Suisui saw how distressed the older boy looked and gently held onto her mother’s neck. Her voice was soft as she said, “Mother, let me go check on him. I’m small, I can crawl inside.”

Qi Wangfei naturally wasn’t happy about this.

She sympathized with other people's children, but she wouldn’t risk her own child.

The boy’s condition was unstable. If Suisui went in, what if he harmed her?

Qi Wangfei wanted to refuse, but Suisui was already gently rocking in her arms, “Mother, please let me go. I can do it. The little brother is in so much pain.”

The child curled up in the corner of the rockery looked just like the Suisui from the past.

She used to hide in every safe corner she could find—the chicken coop, the firewood room. The solitude, helplessness, and pity were so familiar.

Suisui might not understand, but deep in her heart, her tenderness and softness toward the boy were actually a form of disguised love for the pitiable version of herself.

She only knew that seeing the older boy in pain made her heart ache.

So she kept insisting, hoping her mother would let her go.

After much hesitation, Qi Wangfei finally let go of Suisui, but not without reluctance. “You call out to him first. If there’s no response, try tapping him. If something’s wrong, we’ll pull you out. Don’t get hurt. In my heart, no one is more precious than you…”

Although it was just saving a child from the rockery, Qi Wangfei was still very uneasy.

She wished she could give more instructions, afraid Suisui wouldn’t remember them all.

No matter how much Qi Wangfei said, Suisui obediently stood there, listening.

She may not remember everything, but she knew she had to listen to her mother.

When Suisui nodded seriously, Qi Wangfei felt a little more at ease.

Under the reluctant gaze of Qi Wangfei and the worried looks from Lu Xinglan, Suisui quickly ran toward the small passage in the rockery.

Suisui was small and easily crawled inside.

Qi Wangfei felt a pang in her heart as she signaled everyone to gather around and whispered to her servant and Aunt Qiu, “If something goes wrong, pull Suisui out immediately.”

In Qi Wangfei’s heart, even if the child in the rockery was a prince, he wasn’t as important as her own daughter.

So, if the boy was indeed sick and acted out of confusion, she would definitely protect her daughter and not care about anyone else.

Suisui quickly crawled inside and gently approached the trembling older boy. “Little brother, are you okay?”

There was no response. The boy’s body twitched again.

Suisui bit her lip and moved forward, remembering her mother’s instructions. She gently patted the boy’s back twice. “Little brother, hello. I’m Suisui. Are you okay?”

Still no response, but his body kept twitching.

At the same time, Suisui noticed something strange.

She pulled her hand back, looked at it in disbelief, then hesitantly raised her hand to pat the boy again.

He was burning hot!

The boy’s body temperature, even through his clothes, felt like it was burning her hand.

A high fever.

This kind of illness could take someone’s life at any moment.

Especially a child’s life.

Suisui had been ill before, so she was very familiar with such symptoms.

As soon as she sensed something was wrong, she turned in panic and looked at her mother through the gap in the rockery, “Mother, he’s so hot!”

Suisui wanted to ask, Will he die like this?

But as a child, she was a bit scared and didn’t dare to say more.

When Qi Wangfei heard that the child had a fever, her heart tightened.

Though she still didn’t know who the child was, as a mother, she couldn’t stand seeing such things happening to any child.

So, without caring about anything else, she motioned for Suisui to come out through the previous gap, “See if you can move him, pull him out. If you can’t, just tug him a little, and have the others help pull him out.”

Suisui was small, and her strength was limited. It was really difficult for her to pull an older boy who was bigger than her.

But she could think of a way—she could nudge the child from the gap, move him to where the adults could reach him, and then they would be able to help more easily.

With her mother’s guidance, Suisui immediately calmed herself and nodded obediently. She stepped forward, preparing to grab the boy’s clothes and pull him out.

However, as her aunt had taught her, children should be polite and understand proper manners.

Suisui thought that before grabbing the boy, she should at least say something first.

With this thought in mind, Suisui softly said, “Little brother, I’m going to pull you out. I might have to grab your clothes, and it might get them dirty, or I might hurt you. But I’m not a bad person. I’m here to save you!”

The occasional story nights, her recent education, and her aunt’s teachings had all been useful.

Once a child who couldn’t even speak full sentences, Suisui was now speaking much more clearly, and she could explain things in longer sentences.

After saying all that, Suisui felt quite proud of herself.

Seeing that the boy still didn’t respond, except for his body twitching, Suisui quickly stepped forward, grabbed the back of his shirt collar, and with all her strength, tried pulling him out.

But the boy didn’t move.

Suisui: ?

The others: …

She had been too careless.

The child was small and weak.

They had been so focused on getting someone inside, they hadn’t thought that she, too, might not be able to pull him out.

Qi Wangfei, worried that Suisui might feel discouraged, was about to comfort her when she saw Suisui exhale and step forward again.

Suisui felt it shouldn’t be like this.

She had once been able to drag large tree roots and long branches.

Why couldn’t she even pull a person now?

Not willing to give up, Suisui focused all her energy and added more strength to her efforts. She then stepped forward again.

This time, Suisui was smarter. She grabbed the boy’s collar with one hand and his sleeve with the other, using both hands together. “Hee-ha!”

Suisui pulled and chanted a little encouraging phrase to herself.

But the first try still didn’t work.

Qi Wangfei, watching anxiously, wanted to tell Suisui to come out for now.

Madam Lu and the others would probably be arriving soon, so they could send help.

But after failing once and then twice, Suisui didn’t give up.

She adjusted her posture, then tried once more, “Hee-ha!”
