  Chapter 272: The Brothers’ Gifts

Prince Qi spent the day with the children at the estate, enjoying a day of fun and relaxation. Aside from the chickens, ducks, fish, and rabbits being affected by the children’s play, everything else went well.

The children were happy, and Prince Qi himself felt that it was a pleasant and peaceful day.

By the time they were heading back in the evening, it was almost dark. It was only because Suisui was tired and wanted to go back that they decided to leave early; otherwise, Feng Xuanrui and the others would have wanted to stay and play longer.

Usually, they spent their days studying, so a rare day of relaxation was something they truly enjoyed.

However, since their little sister was tired, it was time to head back.

“Sister is the most important!”

“We love sister!”

Feng Xuanrui and Feng Xuanbin were cheering happily as they walked behind, with Feng Xuanrui especially excited.

On the way back, Feng Xuanze noticed the pouch at Feng Xuanrui’s waist. It seemed strangely familiar.

After thinking for a moment, Feng Xuanze couldn’t resist and quietly asked, “Did mother make this for you?”

Feng Xuanrui had almost forgotten about the pouch over the past few days. However, Qing Shan had clearly been taking great care in making sure he wore it, putting it on him every day.

When his older brother asked, Feng Xuanrui lowered his head, looked at the pouch, and nodded, “Yes, mother made it, and it was a lot of work.”

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have worn it.

The stitches weren’t perfect, and the design wasn’t that great.

Feng Xuanze wasn’t surprised by this answer. After all, he had worn several pouches like that in the past.

Seeing his younger brother wearing it, Feng Xuanze couldn’t help but smile, “...Mother must have worked hard on it too.”

Feng Xuanrui frowned slightly. “If you didn’t wear one, you wouldn’t say that.”

But Feng Xuanrui quickly cheered up and said, “But sister said it looked nice, so I think it’s fine to wear it.”

His tone was proud and a bit teasing, which made Feng Xuanze frown.

It sounded like he was the only one who hadn’t been praised by sister.

Today, Suisui also praised her eldest brother for being so steady when lifting her up, saying that his eyes were beautiful, like small round balls.

Suisui said a lot of things.

In the past, she hadn’t liked her cousins teasing her, so she never really paid attention to them or complimented them.

But now that her brothers treated her so well, Suisui naturally wanted to follow her heart and express her gratitude by showering them with compliments.

Her brothers were good to her and cared for her a lot.

Suisui thought that, for now, she couldn’t repay them with anything else, but she could give them more praise.

Grandfather Liu had said that if you liked someone, you should compliment them more because they would certainly enjoy it.

The group happily made their way back, with Suisui not needing to walk, as Prince Qi carried her the whole way. Feng Xuanyu, feeling somewhat regretful, spread his hands in frustration. He thought it was a waste of his strength when he could easily carry several people at once.

But no one let him carry them.

Even his younger brother, Feng Xuanbo, didn’t want him to.

Feng Xuanyu scratched his head in confusion. “Don’t want to walk, and don’t want to be carried either?”

Feng Xuanbo made it clear: “Of course I don’t want to!”

“Second brother, you’re not carrying me; you’re lifting me like a bundle!”

No matter what, he was still a young man. Being "held" in his brother's hands like that—how could that be proper?

Everyone returned home in high spirits.

Feng Xuanze and the others planned to leave for the academy early the next morning. Tonight, however, they could still stay to have dinner with the family before heading back.

They had eaten well during the day at the estate, and having played hard all day, Suisui wasn’t very hungry by the time they returned.

Qi Wangfei carefully asked about what Suisui had eaten earlier. Once she was sure that Suisui wasn’t hungry, she felt reassured.

Feng Xuanze and Feng Xuanyu had both prepared gifts for their sister, as they hadn’t had a chance to do so earlier due to being busy. Now that they were about to return to the academy, they couldn’t delay giving their gifts any longer.

If they waited, their sister would already be asleep. And since they would be leaving early the next day, they wouldn’t have a chance to see her.

So, the two brothers quickly retrieved their gift boxes.

Feng Xuanze’s gift was a box of round fans—yes, a whole box! The fans came in various styles and shapes, some elegant and simple, others ornate and luxurious. There was a fan for every occasion, whether for banquets or everyday use.

When Suisui saw the beautiful fans, her eyes lit up. “Wow!”

Even though she had seen many fine things before, she was still dazzled by the array of fans.

She happily stepped forward, carefully touched the fans, and then gave Feng Xuanze a proper bow. “Thank you, elder brother.”

Hearing this, Feng Xuanyu became a little jealous and hurriedly stepped forward with his own gift box. “Sister, look! Here’s a gift from second brother. My gift is just as good!”

Suisui was still marveling at the fans when she was pulled over to see her second brother’s gift.

Feng Xuanyu’s gift... was rather unconventional. It included a small bow designed for children.

The bow was crafted from water buffalo horn, a material commonly used among nobility but rare among ordinary people due to its cost. Although the bow was small and clearly made for a child, it was still too large and heavy for Suisui to handle. She couldn’t even draw it.

The other item in Feng Xuanyu’s box was a wolf fang necklace. Proudly, Feng Xuanyu introduced it:

“This is from the wolf I hunted alone during my first royal autumn hunt with Uncle Emperor when I was ten. I chose the strongest fang—one went to Mother, and I kept the other. I just knew it would come in handy one day!”

As soon as Suisui heard the words “wolf fang,” her face changed.

Feng Xuanyu, still beaming, hadn’t realized her reaction. But Feng Xuanze, already anticipating this, quickly stepped in to comfort her.

“Sister, don’t be scared. It’s not from a live wolf. The wolf was already gone when the fang was taken. It’s just a decoration—yes, it looks a bit fierce, but it’s not frightening. Look, even I can touch it easily.”

While speaking, Feng Xuanze reached out and lightly touched the fang.

It was only then that Feng Xuanyu realized his sister might be frightened. To him, the wolf fang was a treasured memento—something he wouldn’t even give to his younger brother. He had only included it in the gift box after seeing how much he adored his sister upon returning to the manor.

Initially, the bow was supposed to be the only gift.

Seeing his sister’s fear, Feng Xuanyu felt both hurt and flustered. Watching Suisui being comforted by their elder brother, he looked down awkwardly and finally murmured, “It’s not scary. Sister, don’t be afraid.”

Feng Xuanze then recounted the story of Feng Xuanyu’s brave hunt, helping Suisui understand how much effort and courage had gone into obtaining the wolf fang.

Hearing the story, Suisui was both frightened and amazed.

Her second brother was truly incredible!

Perhaps the narrative lessened her fear, and the rarity of the wolf fang—being something none of her other brothers had—quickly intrigued her. It was a one-of-a-kind gift, and Suisui began to feel it must be very special.

Moreover, this was her second brother’s heartfelt gesture. She couldn’t and shouldn’t be afraid of it!

Second brother was a good person. He just looked a little intimidating!
