Chapter 446: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 446: Partnering with the Men in Black (6)
Wu shi still refused adamantly, unwilling to learn no matter what. It wasn't that she wasn't tempted; rather, she disliked taking advantage of others. Her niece had already helped her enough, and she knew she needed to find a way to repay her. If she learned this too, she feared she wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully at night.
Seeing Wu shi's firm attitude, Mo Yan knew further persuasion would be futile. She thought for a moment and said, "Aunt, how about this? I'll teach you these few snack recipes. When the stall opens and starts earning money, consider my share of the earnings as well. This way, you earn money, and I won't lose out either. What do you think?"
Wu shi's eyes brightened upon hearing this suggestion. After some consideration, she finally agreed, "Alright, I'll remember your kindness. If we make any money, no matter how much, you'll take seventy percent, and I'll take thirty."
Mo Yan immediately objected, "No, that won't do. You're the one doing all the hard work. I can't take the lion's share. Seventy-thirty split is more than fair."
"No, no, no. Without your recipes, Aunt wouldn't earn a single coin, no matter how hard I work. You deserve seventy percent," Wu shi insisted, refusing to accept any other arrangement.
After a lengthy back-and-forth, Mo Yan insisted on a fifty-fifty split, and Wu shi reluctantly agreed before leaving with a guilty expression, feeling she had taken advantage of Mo Yan.
At lunch, Mo Yan brought up the matter, and Mo Qingze supported the idea, not objecting to his daughter's continued association with the family. After all, sister-in-law and her children were decent people, and they had taken care of Mo Yan when they were still living in Old village.
Having finished greeting people in the morning, there was nothing to do in the afternoon, so the family moved their chairs outside to bask in the sun. They cracked peanuts and sunflower seeds while listening to Li Zhong tell tales of strange happenings in the world, thoroughly enjoying themselves until time slipped away.
At night, when Mo Yan estimated everyone was asleep, she woke up Xiao Hua and Da Bai, taking them outside the courtyard.
With darkness all around, not a sound could be heard, and the atmosphere was calm. Mo Yan squatted down, gently squeezing their pointed ears as she whispered, "Both of you, look carefully and see if there's anyone hiding around our house."
She had kept the events of the day to herself, finding it impossible to sleep without understanding what was happening.
The ears of the two animals twitched, and to Mo Yan's surprise, they stealthily walked toward a certain spot in the darkness. Mo Yan listened carefully and heard faint movements. Before long, they returned with two men dressed entirely in black from head to toe.
If Mo Yan hadn't been prepared, hadn't Xiao Hua and Da Bai refrained from attacking, knowing the two men meant no harm, she would have been startled by their appearance, even though she knew there were no ghosts in this world.
But thinking that her every move was being watched, even if it was for protection, Mo Yan felt extremely annoyed and spoke harshly, "Who are you? How long have you been spying on me?"
The men in black glanced at each other. One of them stepped forward, bowing to Mo Yan without any change in tone, "Young Miss, one and a half months."
Mo Yan didn't understand at first, but when she did, she couldn't help but sweat. "Who is your master?" Even though she had a guess, she wanted to confirm it.
The man in black remained silent.
Mo Yan almost went crazy seeing him, asking another question in a cold tone, "Did you intervene this morning to save me?"
This time he readily admitted, "Yes."
Mo Yan's expression softened a bit, but her tone remained unfriendly. "Thank you for saving me. However, I don't like being watched all the time. You can go back to wherever you came from. If you're worried about punishment from your master, tell him it's my decision. I think your master will understand."
