  **Chapter 242: Pregnancy**

Suisui's voice wasn't loud, but the clear sound of her words immediately silenced the entire courtyard.

Even the young masters, who had been chatting loudly, turned around in surprise, their expressions varied as they looked at Concubine Gu's... stomach.

Concubine Gu felt like she might have misheard.

A brother in her stomach?

Could it be that she was pregnant?

How could that be? The Prince hadn't come to her chambers...

Wait...

No, two or three months ago, the Prince seemed to have visited once? Although, in the second half of the night, the Prince said he was uncomfortable and left.

Because of this, Concubine Su teased her the next day.

But during the first half of the night, they had indeed slept together.

It was only later that Concubine Gu learned that the Prince had initially gone to Concubine Su's room. However, something had happened at dinner, and Concubine Su had upset the Prince, causing him to leave without eating.

In the second half of the night, the Prince had been starving and didn't want to admit it. So, he said the bed was uncomfortable and left hastily to go back to the main courtyard for food.

Concubine Gu had initially taken this explanation from the Princess as a way to comfort her, thinking that the Prince leaving halfway through the night might have embarrassed her.

But now...

Pregnant???

Concubine Gu couldn't quite believe it. She was in disbelief and confusion.

Just that one time?

If it were that easy for her to conceive, why hadn't it happened earlier?

Qi Wangfei initially didn't realize what was happening either.

But once her mind cleared and she thought carefully about Suisui's words, she finally understood.

She turned to Concubine Gu, grabbing her hand, half-scolding and half-sighing: "You’re pregnant and didn’t even come to the main courtyard to announce the good news? Why keep it a secret?"

Seeing Concubine Gu's confused expression, Qi Wangfei thought to herself...

It seemed like Concubine Gu hadn’t realized it yet.

Then, remembering what Physician Liu had mentioned earlier, that Concubine Gu's cycle was irregular and that conception might be difficult for her, Qi Wangfei realized why Concubine Gu hadn’t noticed.

Thankfully, despite all the recent disturbances in the Prince's Manor, nothing had affected the older Concubine like her.

Relieved, Qi Wangfei softly said, "Thank heavens, thank heavens!"

She then turned to Aunt Qiu, "Quick, go ask Physician Liu to come and check."

After giving the instruction, Qi Wangfei pulled Concubine Gu’s hand and said, “Let’s go, go lie down for now.”

Before leaving, Qi Wangfei reminded Suisui: “Suisui, be good. Mother will take care of Aunt Gu. You go to class with your older siblings. I’ll come get you at noon.”

Suisui didn’t know much about pregnancy, but she thought that since her older siblings took care of her because she was little, she should take care of the baby in Aunt Gu’s belly as the older sister.

She wouldn’t take her mother away from the baby.

Thinking this, Suisui nodded obediently. "Okay, I’ll listen to Mother."

She then happily followed her older siblings to class.

Qi Wangfei thought about how, after the recent unfortunate events, the Prince’s Manor finally had some good news. She hoped it would lift everyone's spirits.

Also, since her own health wasn’t the best, discovering that one of the concubines was pregnant and could bear a child for the Prince would surely improve his mood as well.

It wasn’t until they had returned to her room and Concubine Gu lay back down on the bed that it fully dawned on her.

She grasped the Princess’s hand and hesitated to speak, wanting to say: "Maybe it’s not true...?"

How could she possibly be pregnant after just that one time?

Maybe the child just wants a little brother and said that on purpose? But then again, Concubine Gu thought, many children have the ability to see things that others can’t.

So, is she really pregnant?

Concubine Gu’s face was filled with confusion and doubt.

When Physician Liu arrived and carefully examined her, the situation was confirmed.

After checking her pulse, Physician Liu nodded, “Indeed, you’re pregnant, already almost three months along. The pregnancy seems to be going well, but since you’re in poor health, you’ll need to rest and take care of yourself, or you might suffer during childbirth.”

Qi Wangfei, who had been listening, finally relaxed her tense nerves.

A pregnancy is a good thing!

The prince would probably be in a better mood as well.

Concubine Gu slowly regained her composure, coming down from her earlier light-headedness.

She really is pregnant.

It’s been five years since she entered the royal Residence, and she’s finally pregnant!

Concubine Gu couldn’t quite believe it, but there was no doubt about Physician Liu’s medical skills.

She really is pregnant.

Concubine Gu felt a mix of excitement and tears.

Pregnancy meant there was nothing wrong with her body.

If she could give birth to this child smoothly, she would no longer be without support in the Prince Residence.

Her previously unsettled heart finally found some peace.

Physician Liu continued to give instructions to her maid, Liang’er.

Since she was barely three months along and the pregnancy was progressing well, there was no need for medication for now. After further check-ups, they would decide whether she needed medicine to stabilize the pregnancy.

However, Concubine Gu’s health had always been weak, and her menstrual cycle had been unstable. Physician Liu even had records showing that sometimes her periods hadn’t come for as long as six months.

Such a condition made it more difficult to conceive.

Even after getting pregnant, extra care would be needed.

Despite taking better care of her body, she might still suffer quite a bit during childbirth.

Physician Liu gave a thorough but not overly alarming explanation, not wanting to add to Concubine Gu’s stress.

Some things could be told to the prince and princess later.

Qi Wangfei naturally understood Concubine Gu’s situation.

She comforted Concubine Gu, advising her not to be too excited, and ordered Aunt Qiu, “Go to the other courtyard and see if there’s a good, experienced midwife we can bring back to help her.”

Aunt Qiu quickly replied and went to carry out the order.

Concubine Gu wanted to refuse but then thought about it. The other concubines who had been pregnant in the Prince manor all had older, experienced midwives to help.

For her, this arrangement was perfectly normal, not special treatment.

After thinking it through, Concubine Gu held back the words she was about to say.

Seeing she didn’t refuse, Qi Wangfei also relaxed.

She knew that Concubine Gu’s hesitation was mostly due to her concerns about her status.

Qi Wangfei wasn’t particularly bothered by these things.

If she had cared, Concubine Gu would never have entered the Prince manor in the first place.

After comforting Concubine Gu, Qi Wangfei had Aunt Qiu pass along the necessary instructions to Liang’er, then left.

Even after they left, Concubine Gu still didn’t quite feel it.

She gently placed her hand on her belly, filled with both surprise and joy.

Could it be… she’s really pregnant?
