Chapter 238: I Have No Manners

Prince Qi still remembered how Qi Wangfei had once mentioned that the Tang family had targeted their eldest son while dismissing Suisui. Even worse, one of the Tang family's sons had once bullied her.

The princess conducted herself with grace, so although she had been dissatisfied, she refrained from sending over any lamb legs.

Prince Qi, however, had no such reservations: "I have no manners. I'll send them, yes, I will!"

How dare they bully his daughter?

He’d already done plenty of unrestrained things, so what was one more?

If the Tang family dared to bring it up, so be it!

Sui Si listened to the prince’s instructions with a mix of reluctance and amusement, then sighed and thought, "Well, it’s for the little princess."

The poor little princess had been wronged, and it was all the Tang family’s fault. Sending lamb legs was entirely justified.

Sui Si swiftly made the arrangements.

Suisui, for her part, had long forgotten any grievances. She didn’t even recall the "mean brother" who once pulled faces at her and had frightened her.

At that moment, Suisui was engrossed in watching the lambs being slaughtered.

The steward had called in several farmhands to quickly round up the lambs selected by the prince.

While Suisui was interested in watching, Prince Qi didn’t want the children to witness such bloodiness.

He tried to coax and carry her away from the start of the scene. When she could no longer be persuaded, he eventually accompanied her to see the butcher prepare the lamb.

The butcher's knife work was skillful—years of practice made every move a performance.

At first, Shen Huatang couldn’t bear to look and kept averting her gaze.

Liu Hemeng, however, was still too young to be scared, so she watched with curiosity.

Both girls were soon captivated.

"Is that the lamb ribs?"

"I think so, right? It’s lined up one by one, must be ribs... yum!"

“Roasted would be delicious. Is that the lamb leg? The meat looks so tender—just right for lamb stew.”

“I think lamb tripe is best, but… where’s the lamb tripe?”

...

Shen Huatang, initially unwilling to watch, was eventually drawn in by Liu Hemeng’s curiosity.

She was soon entranced by the butcher’s skillful knife work and began to observe the different cuts of meat.

At home, she often drank lamb tripe soup as part of her wellness routine, so now she couldn’t help but wonder where the tripe was.

The butcher, while cleaning the lamb, chuckled at the girls’ curiosity and reassured them, "The tripe hasn’t been cleaned out yet. Still full of insides—not the best sight, young misses. Just wait for the cooked meat later."

Shen Huatang nodded obediently, understanding little but following directions.

But Liu Hemeng was still full of questions, “Are the forelegs or hindlegs more tender? All the meat looks good to me.”

Suisui couldn’t answer, but her keen sense of smell caused her to wrinkle her nose and murmur, “Not the best smell.”

Prepared lamb was tasty, but the process smelled… intense!

Prince Qi couldn’t resist the sight of Suisui’s wrinkled nose as she covered her mouth. He wanted to let the children observe but found it impossible to hold back from comforting his precious girl.

In the end, he scooped her up and fanned her face: “Father’s here to fan away the bad smell.”

Suisui couldn’t quite distinguish whether it was gamey or stinky, but it was unpleasant.

Prince Qi, meanwhile, was racking his brain for ways to distract her. Maybe a scented sachet?

He had become wary of sachets recently, feeling a mild aversion whenever they came up.

But if Suisui really disliked the scent here, he would endure it for her sake.

Before he had to make that decision, however, Suisui’s attention had already shifted to the newly hatched chicks.

The fluffy yellow chicks looked too adorable!

As Suisui moved, Shen Huatang and Liu Hemeng followed.

Compared to the bloody lamb slaughter, the chick pen was indeed a peaceful sight.

The chicks, mostly a soft yellow but with some speckled or gray ones, were covered in downy fluff. Even the ones with dark feathers looked gentle and cute.

Suisui watched them, struggling to resist the urge to pet one.

Liu Hemeng whispered beside her, "It’s not a good idea to touch them. They were just born, and too much touching might hurt them. If they’re hens, we might lose a lot of eggs."

Suisui nodded solemnly, “I won’t touch them then.”

Prince Qi, indifferent to a few chicks, boldly declared, “No worries. Even if we lose some, we’ll just have the hens lay more eggs.”

Everyone around him stared speechlessly.

It was like he didn’t think chickens had any worth!

In the end, Suisui refrained from petting the chicks.

But to cheer her up, Prince Qi promised they would take some chicks back to the estate to care for.

After watching the lambs and the chicks, they observed the donkey grind some flour before finally sitting down to eat.

Lunch turned into a full lamb feast.

Green onion lamb stew, tender roasted leg, charcoal-grilled ribs, lamb tripe soup…

For balance, there were several vegetable dishes as well.

Suisui was beyond satisfied, her head drooping as she nodded off.

After lunch, the three little ones played briefly before dozing off.

Seeing this, Prince Qi was delighted to have the chance to dote on his daughter personally.

It was finally his turn!

Prince Qi, a bit clumsy, began coaxing Suisui to sleep.

Luckily, Suisui was sweet-natured and genuinely tired, so it didn’t take long for her to fall asleep.

With the other two children dozing nearby, Prince Qi gazed at Suisui’s adorable, peaceful face, feeling he could never get enough.

This child was meant to be his!

He chuckled to himself, somewhat indignant with the heavens: How could they have let his child be born into another family?

He’d had to work so hard just to bring her back.

The heavens had been unfair to him!

After marveling at his daughter for a while, Prince Qi carefully tiptoed out of the room, instructing aunt Xiang and a few others to keep watch in case of any danger.

With spring in full bloom, the estate was close to farmland, and snakes or rats might appear at any moment.

Even if they weren’t venomous, any injury to Suisui’s delicate skin would distress Prince Qi immensely.

He not only instructed aunt Xiang to watch closely but also called the steward to sprinkle herbs around the property and clear away unnecessary weeds.

"And what’s piled over there? If it’s useless, clean it up."

“Keep the storerooms tidy. Don’t get lazy! We don’t know what might end up hiding there.”

...

While Suisui slept, Prince Qi was full of energy.

He set the estate staff on a full-scale cleanup.
