Chapter 365: First Mention of Marriage for Little White Cabbage Female Lead (Part 1)
Mo Yan carried two packets of snacks and went straight to find Yang Bao. She didn't embellish or exaggerate; she simply repeated what the Wang couple had said.
Yang Bao listened with a mix of anger and shame, his old face turning bright red.
It was he who had initially led the effort to settle those villagers whose houses had collapsed into Mo's family home. Now, the Wang family's actions were clearly slapping him in the face. Moreover, building an adobe house would cost at least ten or more taels of silver. Where would the Wang family get that kind of money? They were obviously just eyeing Mo's good house and trying to squat there under false pretenses!
Such shameless people! If it were him, even if they offered money, he wouldn't let them stay in his own house. Besides, Mo's family didn't lack that bit of silver!
Thinking to himself, Yang Bao said in a low voice, "Yan girl, rest assured, I'll handle this matter!"
"Well, I trust Uncle Yang Bao! But Wang Dali isn't someone easy to get along with. I wonder if he'll hold a grudge," Mo Yan said, expressing a newfound layer of concern.
Seeing Mo Yan's worry, Yang Bao smiled reassuringly and said, "Yan, just endure him for a couple of days. When the time comes, even if he harbors resentment, he wouldn't dare confront your family when I step in!"
Mo Yan felt better about Yang Bao after hearing this. But if Wang Dali blamed Yang Bao for meddling, what would happen?
Seeing her concern, Yang Bao chuckled and said, "Yan girl, don't worry. After all, I am the village chief of Liuyang Village. As long as the Wang family wants to stay in Liuyang Village, they wouldn't dare do anything against me!"
Though Yang Bao was just an unranked village chief, in Liuyang Village, his word was law. He even had the authority to evict any villagers who defied his will.
With her last worry gone, Mo Yan gratefully said, "I'll leave this matter to Uncle Yang Bao!"
Yang Bao waved his hand repeatedly, stating that since he was partly responsible for the matter, it was his duty to resolve it.
Unaware that Mo Yan had reported to the village chief, Wang Dali and the others felt triumphant over the past few days. Seeing Mo Yan not chasing them away, they openly mocked the seven other villagers who were diligently repairing their houses, calling them fools for idly lounging in the sun.
Little did they know, those villagers were silently scornful of them and had already included them in their "blacklist" of refused interactions.
Four to five days passed this way. With help from other friendly villagers, those seven households quickly repaired their houses. The day before they moved back, these villagers brought eggs or homemade food to Mo's house as a gesture of gratitude. Mo Yan smiled and reciprocated accordingly.
One by one, the villagers gradually moved out. Only the Wang family showed no signs of movement. When people in the village thought Mo's family had consented, Yang Bao and his sons found Wang Dali and demanded to know why they hadn't moved out yet.
Wang Dali tried to use the same excuses he had used on Mo Yan to appease Yang Bao, but Yang Bao painstakingly exposed every lie. He harshly scolded Wang Dali and set a three-day deadline. Regardless of whether their house was repaired, they must move out of Mo's house within three days. If they dared resist, Yang Bao would personally come and "help" them move out of Liuyang Village.
This scolding left the Wang family dumbfounded. Wang Dali, having regained his senses, was about to ask Mo Yan to intervene and personally ask Yang Bao to let them stay. However, he was informed that Mo Yan had already gone to town early in the morning and wouldn't return until evening.
No matter how much Wang Dali's family pleaded, Yang Bao refused to change his mind and left with his sons, sweeping his sleeves as he departed.
